Welcome to my website!
My name is Yavor Dimitrov. I am a fluent English and native Bulgarian speaker, a professional linguist and a full-time certified (sworn) freelance translator dedicated to language and translation, holding an MA degree in English with a specialization in Theory of Translation, living and working in Bulgaria and teleworking for clients in Europe, Canada, and the United States, providing high-quality translation and editing services at very competitive rates, and devoting meticulous attention to detail while working on each project. I have a proven track record of always delivering even the most challenging projects on time.
I also have eleven years' experience as a freelance translator from/into English, including a four-year tenure as an in-house translator. From 2003 to 2004, after having settled down in Ottawa, ON, I had the unique opportunity to work for the Canadian Federal Government as a Program Support Officer at Natural Resources Canada, Office of Energy Efficiency, where I gained detailed knowledge of renewable energy sources, particularly sunlight, wind, and geothermal heat.
While my main focus in translation is Cinema/Film/TV/Drama (Samples of some of my translations for subtitling, dubbing, voice-over, and lip-sync), I have had extensive experience with many different types of translations. I specialize in fields such as Advertising/Public Relations, Environment & Ecology, Government/Politics, Poetry & Literature, Tourism and Travel.
Working Fields
Business/Commerce, Certificates/Diplomas/Licenses/CV’s, Clinical Interviews, Computers (General), Education/Pedagogy, Finance (General), History, Law (General), Linguistics, Management, Media/Multimedia, Medical (General), Software Training Videos/Video Tutorials
I am also a published poet and translator. To view some of my literary works and translations, please go to My Publications. In 2002, I won a second place award in the Bulgaria National Haiku Contest held by the Literature Club e-zine, and received a Certificate of Honorable Mention in recognition of literary excellence granted by the National Authors Registry, USA in 1997.
In my work I rely on a wide network of language experts and colleagues who can assist me with specialized terminology and proofing, when necessary.
